<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hello everyone I am back again. I have been very lazy with my blog for nearly a year. I have all these good intentions but never seem to do it. </span><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6BBkFDidvhcGfiCUKY-ms4mIoa_hK6sb3oDesSFad_jWiro0cPvl1H9b8tt3ogKcuzqEO_Z6fZ7_httNE2WpAvgqCmG6nkrf-3W8cJN3q7AQ00rMQASmJewNssLD4qdiDIlJGCUbwYCg/s1600/MerleBag01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6BBkFDidvhcGfiCUKY-ms4mIoa_hK6sb3oDesSFad_jWiro0cPvl1H9b8tt3ogKcuzqEO_Z6fZ7_httNE2WpAvgqCmG6nkrf-3W8cJN3q7AQ00rMQASmJewNssLD4qdiDIlJGCUbwYCg/s1600/MerleBag01.jpg" height="320" width="229" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope you enjoy this little bag it was made for a challenge by <a href="https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/stitchmap/info">Stitchmap</a>. The challenge was the bag and because we are an embroidery group a necessary element was the embroidery.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The embroidery is a Brazilian embroidery I designed for a class I am going to teach next term. I can certainly not claim the stitches as mine the come from a number of different sources and are interpreted by me. The layout of the design though is all mine.</span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The little button is a Dorset button that I will probably change for an embroidered one; but as I had the Dorset made I used it. An excellent site to see how to make these pretty buttons is <a href="http://www.craftstylish.com/item/42688/how-to-make-dorset-buttons">here</a>. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What a wonderful way to spend a cold miserable Sunday. I do not usually do
hand applique I usually prefer using my machine. This being said the pretty
little lady would not have worked by machine. I used all cotton quilting fabric
for my lady. Her face is some backing fabric in close to skin tones her hat just a pretty green fabric and the under brim some green homespun. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-r2_pIisy60_GScyn7Z8wCBtKKZyb9GTl7JxbfTip5v7lSvBvY3w3a-n4Yrso07DzFwVZLMVdy9HD57GVCl7OueFax681menSyrxt1thLBlPEM8O1pEAoqZIiumKzLEhnGaiv-SKFVWk/s1600/05May01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-r2_pIisy60_GScyn7Z8wCBtKKZyb9GTl7JxbfTip5v7lSvBvY3w3a-n4Yrso07DzFwVZLMVdy9HD57GVCl7OueFax681menSyrxt1thLBlPEM8O1pEAoqZIiumKzLEhnGaiv-SKFVWk/s1600/05May01.jpg" height="292" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The stitching proved a challenge especially turning the tight points and curves of her face. I started out using freezer paper but that was just too difficult but I had pressed some of the shape in so I removed the paper and using a pin and my needle stitched all around. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I used a layering method to get the pieces laid. First was the little brim piece the the face and finally the hat then I stitched it all down with the tiniest stitches I could manage.The faced details were stitched with 1 or 2 strands of floss using back stitch for the nose, satin stitch for the lips and outline stitch for the hair. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The hatband is Hungarian braid stitch done with variegated Perl 8 thread. The variegation did not come out too well in the photo. The little flower is made up of a mother of pearl flower button, a plastic flower button, a purple sequin and a pink bead.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was fun to do but I do not think needle turned applique is really for me.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Whispers Blocks Arrived</span></h2>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What fun at last my Whispers RR blocks have arrived home and now I can share with all of you the fun we have had. This RR has taken quiet some time bit I think the wait was worth it.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First block was my own and I sent it off to Lilli </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVvXiTx0Nk5ET-p_Ri2mElkM69jIFjkDhVPOWRNulJERWpboW16Q_oFJ3jgWwjSyJJttV8Cpf_zTgm30Tgpn-sBwBzZBlY1uww_-wIw-ahCwXEZWCKUlxqUHASFux2n5bWsrXtle3KH4M/s1600/01Merle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVvXiTx0Nk5ET-p_Ri2mElkM69jIFjkDhVPOWRNulJERWpboW16Q_oFJ3jgWwjSyJJttV8Cpf_zTgm30Tgpn-sBwBzZBlY1uww_-wIw-ahCwXEZWCKUlxqUHASFux2n5bWsrXtle3KH4M/s1600/01Merle.jpg" height="293" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I had a great time making it and thought it would be a challenge. This really is one of my favourite pictures and all will be revealed at the end.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am impressed with Lillie's interpretation it is very close to my original.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS3HQDuYzo7UWEXvSj5HgVFlR3dJAcpu6gGJ03ZhN4UNLXGmeaE_GFI5uSGermzVDT7TQyqYnOfbFn2N5vb3MRyDv9_wawCEq0EpC6RtPjypXCSkLh94xIfW7IxAVMLw_HtioptRStTY4/s1600/02lillie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS3HQDuYzo7UWEXvSj5HgVFlR3dJAcpu6gGJ03ZhN4UNLXGmeaE_GFI5uSGermzVDT7TQyqYnOfbFn2N5vb3MRyDv9_wawCEq0EpC6RtPjypXCSkLh94xIfW7IxAVMLw_HtioptRStTY4/s1600/02lillie.jpg" height="312" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What happened next was Lillie wrapped my original block and sent it off to Cobi. All Cobi could see was Lillie's interpretation of my block not the original. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In a lovely letter Cobi admitted she had no idea who the artist was and it took her some time to see the bird. Her beautiful block was made with a similar bird but using her favourite colours and some lovely stitching.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivTkQg_Xs4LasWiv_TMtutprvd_eM94ywFKRb4EkPIpCpXmHjadLLj-Tckbu1IDR0Mn2LAR3TtnYCJzooOWhf9743sen3Wp4Hxlt3OXXUm6Ppj6uLITsh6MScSolCaavNHhbyXFuwKrxs/s1600/03Cobi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivTkQg_Xs4LasWiv_TMtutprvd_eM94ywFKRb4EkPIpCpXmHjadLLj-Tckbu1IDR0Mn2LAR3TtnYCJzooOWhf9743sen3Wp4Hxlt3OXXUm6Ppj6uLITsh6MScSolCaavNHhbyXFuwKrxs/s1600/03Cobi.jpg" height="316" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is just a great block. So now Cobi wrapped Lillie's block up the same as mine and sent the lot off to Debbie.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Debbie's bird is much more traditional but when you know it is the first time she has ever done a bird and had some family dramas as well I think you will agree with me this is an exceptional block.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnZgV08umCcGIBodtJD-PiGPsOwanNlSXli-V1m9X16sRf2vQxbmjzaI0n7lmyi36sA5zqk5sXOURxpufgYZes4DpyIytqvpwGA5G3Zt6eHxonO0LsDBJD0Exu5CzI_sTFoi9FnUwM2Bo/s1600/04Debbi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnZgV08umCcGIBodtJD-PiGPsOwanNlSXli-V1m9X16sRf2vQxbmjzaI0n7lmyi36sA5zqk5sXOURxpufgYZes4DpyIytqvpwGA5G3Zt6eHxonO0LsDBJD0Exu5CzI_sTFoi9FnUwM2Bo/s1600/04Debbi.jpg" height="320" width="315" /></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I just love the sweet fat little bird and I can almost hear him singing. Ok so now Cobi's block goes undercover and all fly off to Theresa.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Theresa's block I think reflects the weather you have been having over there. The bright and cheery Cardinal is the bright spot on the blocks but the wonderful stitching and beading certainly make this a wint</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">er wonderland.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This was such fun to see how things can change with just 5 people imagine what would happen with 10.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I suppose now is the time for the great reveal of what the original inspiration was so here goes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
TaaaDaa</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinXmNcnoIEzitphIv3zzHzc9ICtQVj3J96BT3Qfci6WNbJ-TDtOO6M7ML4d7qjNNPujsF9jifXW6BB58VFFfZwCmwNHRFlyy40Fu41JKXZEBCAlkOaSKODEaEXd4Rfe2-cAKh_Opy8fsU/s1600/paul-klee-1914.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinXmNcnoIEzitphIv3zzHzc9ICtQVj3J96BT3Qfci6WNbJ-TDtOO6M7ML4d7qjNNPujsF9jifXW6BB58VFFfZwCmwNHRFlyy40Fu41JKXZEBCAlkOaSKODEaEXd4Rfe2-cAKh_Opy8fsU/s1600/paul-klee-1914.jpg" height="320" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The original was a painting by Paul Klee done in 1914. I think it is called the Golden Fish. I have always loved his work and chose this particular painting because of the solid patches of colour that I thought would make a fun embroidery block.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I still intend to make a wall hanging of the progress through the different works.This was a very interesting exercise </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thank you so much Lillie, Cobi, Debbie and Theresa I hope you enjoyed this game as much as I did and I am looking forward to seeing your set of blocks in the near future</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">More About Hexies</span></h2>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am sure I have "Borrowers" in my house. How can you possible lose an embroidery mounted on a frame in the only room of the house you sew in. Well that is what has happened to the Garden hexie it has disappeared. I have looked high an low for it but it has gone. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I de</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">cided I would work on the other 2</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> hexies for February before I finished the Garden.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I already showed the Silk Ribbon work sohere is the bullion stitch one</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHbhlyX9rkXIRthISs7zcx5TDG_6cLb70VZJ-_5f1__HTCYQlNFLIhBXni6TWh0dl1NmMizXL4de68JE67vkX2LDrWnuIRa9hnu2jaliz2kcDSsMoWyRL7Bxq-pdK1Z-0EeSUUkqvsASvW/s1600/Hexie02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHbhlyX9rkXIRthISs7zcx5TDG_6cLb70VZJ-_5f1__HTCYQlNFLIhBXni6TWh0dl1NmMizXL4de68JE67vkX2LDrWnuIRa9hnu2jaliz2kcDSsMoWyRL7Bxq-pdK1Z-0EeSUUkqvsASvW/s1600/Hexie02.jpg" height="320" width="314" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am not to disappointed in how it turned out. I used colonial knots in the centre of the bullion flowers and the tiny pearls are from my stash.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am sure at some stage I will either find my Garden or start another they reckon 3 times is the charm. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Meanwhile I have finished the first of the March lessons. This one is magic I have never used this method before and it is hard to believe the Rose is done in only one colour thread. The secret is the number of plys used and whether you use half or full cross stitches.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I just love this I think it turned out great. I chose to do a yellow rose as that is my favourite colour and I am so glad I did.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At last I have finished my February block. This one was a marathon because I decided to make this a practice block for bullion stitch. </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am afraid I got lost along the way and in the end I used a lace butterfly to finish the block. This is supposed to be farm with vegetables and fish and bees and one sheep that really needs to be shorn. All in all I enjoyed doing this block it pushed my comfort zone right out.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">March I have decided is going to be easier I will only be allowed to use seam decoration le</span><span style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">ts see how that works out.</span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">More Hexies - The Knot Garden</span></h2>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have been working on my Knot Garden again. Now I have at least finished one Hexie I can get back to the Garden. I was having a terrible time with the original stitching not because I cannot do the stitches but because I could not see the outline of the design. 2 lessons learnt here.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">1. Be more careful when you are transferring the design do not go at it like a bull at a gate. Make sure all the lines are transferred and you can see them properly. My ole eyes are not what they used to be.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2. Read all th</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">e </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">instructions</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> before doing anything!!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I started with the Palestrina stitch and as you can see in the picture below it is terrible.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVITit0RUI866CNFptRuaMSOIJJH8isrz_gY_DHMyPEIEzfsWt2Tl9uB9at5k1mprxGmL67-v4q5k1JmsSGnx0eE0uu_Dwg25HjZg5jDuPCeRNdJbreZTqul8eP4SG5nEZsoTq45GoXRHp/s1600/garden01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVITit0RUI866CNFptRuaMSOIJJH8isrz_gY_DHMyPEIEzfsWt2Tl9uB9at5k1mprxGmL67-v4q5k1JmsSGnx0eE0uu_Dwg25HjZg5jDuPCeRNdJbreZTqul8eP4SG5nEZsoTq45GoXRHp/s1600/garden01.jpg" height="313" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is lumpy and bumpy and not at all attractive. I then decided to ink over the pathways, seemed like a good idea at the time and maybe it will work at a later time when I am prepared to remove all the stitching incorrectly started. The flower beds are not supposed to be Colonial knots and as I said before the Palestrina knots are revolting.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Enter <a href="http://www.shawkl.com/">Kathy Shaw</a>'s blog and her notes about the garden. At last it makes sense to me I can see the shapes happening.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I ditched the original and started at the beginning. Here is where I am at now.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXwanrr2RpzaMzkIPeLffxjrb7JqX_Yj2s0v8sZDXx3mLLXw8Yh_GOpoo-WgBCUF1SXTYnbMdjBj3eNZSBOtxOkQKCXnXh8f5hG1Vb7PXSjn4RaEzMeY5CRBukHHLcuz1YLtOv__-E9X84/s1600/garden00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXwanrr2RpzaMzkIPeLffxjrb7JqX_Yj2s0v8sZDXx3mLLXw8Yh_GOpoo-WgBCUF1SXTYnbMdjBj3eNZSBOtxOkQKCXnXh8f5hG1Vb7PXSjn4RaEzMeY5CRBukHHLcuz1YLtOv__-E9X84/s1600/garden00.jpg" height="320" width="289" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nice neat Palestrina, though I must admit I used 2 strands of floss not just one to get the look I wanted. The pathways are starting to come together. I think this is going to be a WIP for a couple of weeks as I can only sit for so long but I think this is going to work.</span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-90263326775463443002014-02-03T09:12:00.003+11:002014-02-03T09:12:31.412+11:00<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well I have just finished my first hexie for the <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Stitchmap/info">Stitchmap</a> Hex Labs. I started doing the knotted garden pattern but after doing more frog stitch than colonial knots I decided I must at least finish one project for the month then I can continue on the garden.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEXcJM3kuMwWDnSVupEgsf-2Jc2kIiftbtmmWIsnTQbYDVW5MYtoRRLmpoGLvVddxZW38bcahw0vLqPTcY5QNvDMNaGU9d1KsQhjbW8irffTg1oZ_EOOZuH50VKVyRHLcZ_trpWmslgFjF/s1600/Hexie01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEXcJM3kuMwWDnSVupEgsf-2Jc2kIiftbtmmWIsnTQbYDVW5MYtoRRLmpoGLvVddxZW38bcahw0vLqPTcY5QNvDMNaGU9d1KsQhjbW8irffTg1oZ_EOOZuH50VKVyRHLcZ_trpWmslgFjF/s1600/Hexie01.jpg" height="288" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the front. I did not have the correct silk ribbon for the swirly rose so I used a finer ribbon and made groups of roses. The woven roses have a yellow bead tucked into the centre and the group of 5 roses have stamens made of purple bugle beads and yellow seed beads. The little 3 bead elements are just pearlised seed beads. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Outlining frame is Palestrina knots in variegated mauve Perl 8 thread to match the silk ribbon flowers. </span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ElbI6hTP_knR9HBUVHmuZK9V0o68MQN0pMi0dXn5Pj20WMpMe5Qr1Y1hB1CLSc5CO0mhIRmShPqS9bgea8Gx_oNZVOU4SR9Fp4fuqufG4nJwHwkkAuB0WJO9SFsQKXEg_mF0Sxb-eHbA/s1600/Hexie00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ElbI6hTP_knR9HBUVHmuZK9V0o68MQN0pMi0dXn5Pj20WMpMe5Qr1Y1hB1CLSc5CO0mhIRmShPqS9bgea8Gx_oNZVOU4SR9Fp4fuqufG4nJwHwkkAuB0WJO9SFsQKXEg_mF0Sxb-eHbA/s1600/Hexie00.jpg" height="307" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On the back of the hexie I covered the show through stitches from the Palestrina stitch with a plain chain stitch using the same thread as the front. I may go back later and whip the chain but we shall have to see.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Back to stitching the garden maybe my brain has worked it out now. I love doing Colonial knots but I am having trouble defining the paths of the Celtic Knot. I must admit I am no fan of Celtic Knots so this may be the problem but I am not going to be beaten by a pretty piece of stitching.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-73349080785877602952014-01-24T08:42:00.002+11:002014-01-24T08:42:21.897+11:00<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At last the long awaited Hex Labs are starting at <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Stitchmap/info">Stitchmap</a>. The templates are are here and printed and stored in the envelope waiting for the next installment.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are the main templates. At first I did have a problem printing them, because I am in Australia we use A4 210 x 297 mm paper and the pages are Letter 8.5" x 11" our paper is slightly smaller. Usually all I do is change the paper size on the printer and then print but in this case the templates distorted. So what I did was pretend I was using Letter paper and all was well.</span><br />

This has been a tough one. Half way through I decided I hated the fabrics, hated the stitching and all in all hated the project.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But I decided to persevere. I had given myself </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">criteria that was outside my comfort zone. No buttons, beads or charms. I intend to use this as a throw in my lounge room and the item needs to be able to be laundered.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am a big bling person so that was very difficult and I am sure is not going to get any easier over the coming months.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpqq4H-YUZlP52pGyJRvA_mrTFpLtc9pwrbb-j3ZBHsgrA7NNnGL1U51PLt0UkfXpN451bpnqGtp3V9NHzBeCQeldBaZqfcopJs5kNNtsWlMNN9XexN8YmM0Ki1SEFK0waxmflIqS2TyFa/s1600/Block1Challange.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpqq4H-YUZlP52pGyJRvA_mrTFpLtc9pwrbb-j3ZBHsgrA7NNnGL1U51PLt0UkfXpN451bpnqGtp3V9NHzBeCQeldBaZqfcopJs5kNNtsWlMNN9XexN8YmM0Ki1SEFK0waxmflIqS2TyFa/s320/Block1Challange.jpg" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am still not happy with my fabric selection but hopefully it will grow on me. For the stitching I am using the <a href="http://pintangle.com/tast-faq/">TAST</a> list of stitches and hope to incorporate everyone of them eventually.</span></div>

A dear friend asked us to his daughter Amanda's engagement party. Jim and I were in 2 minds whether to go or not as the weather here is very hot and the party was to be away from the coast in the western suburbs area of Newcastle. To cut a long story short we decided to go. We have known the friends for over 30 years and Amanda since she was born. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As expected the weather was nearing the 40 degree Celsius and we were having a lovely time talking with Amanda's grandparents and catching up when an overdressed gentleman arrived carrying a table, tablecloth and avery large book.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes it was a surprise wedding!!! The bride and groom had given their parents 7 weeks to help organize everything. Even the grandparents did not know. I wish I had taken my camera with me so I could show you all how beautiful the bride was. They were married in the garden of their new home and I think this is one of the most romantic weddings I have ever been to. </span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-24316814336727518942014-01-09T13:14:00.001+11:002014-01-09T13:14:43.793+11:00<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have decided to do Leah Day's<a href="http://www.facebook.com/groups/buildingblocksquiltalong/"> "Building Blocks Quiltalong"</a> so I have just made my first 3 blocks.</span><br />

It doesn't matter I have no idea how to use her I will learn.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHVfMsh0ziQDJpqjgYyuhRVmyMQbqu55ozJKBTGf6nh0KEfjqwCAqjvNKyoZ9sc4L5Jcy4lFj28upaalEMgg2how3fBa1ZNyJFVcC3V_rPhEJOfU8vjoQTOp7vA33egm-IPC453ElFrgTw/s1600/MySpinningWheel.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHVfMsh0ziQDJpqjgYyuhRVmyMQbqu55ozJKBTGf6nh0KEfjqwCAqjvNKyoZ9sc4L5Jcy4lFj28upaalEMgg2how3fBa1ZNyJFVcC3V_rPhEJOfU8vjoQTOp7vA33egm-IPC453ElFrgTw/s1600/MySpinningWheel.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Her name is Sally and she is quite old. Made for an old man for his wife she is showing her age like me but I think she is beautiful.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There is a story to me getting her. For Christmas my husband decided to surprise me with a SLR camera but could not find one in his price range, just as well 2 days before Christmas the battery in our car died so my present was a new battery. Very romantic I know but that is the way we are.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then a friend gave me the fleece from an Alpaca, what on earth was I going to do with that? Why learn to spin of course so then we went looking for a spinning wheel and found Sally. So a new era starts. I said this year I was only doing things for myself and the family and it looks as if there will be no time for anything else.</span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-67936522288934666442014-01-02T11:03:00.000+11:002014-01-02T12:37:35.704+11:00<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Happy New Year to you all</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> am involved with the and am determined this year to at least achieve some of the monthly deadlines. I have prepared 4x6" blocks so at least I have started the right way. Now I want to start some stitching. For inspirationI have decided to use the </span><a href="http://pintangle.com/tast-faq/" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">TAST</a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> stitch list and hopefully I will use all the stitches on the list on my blocks.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am having a break this year from Round Robins and am going to do stitching for myself and my family. There are a few tutorials I want to do as well as the Project and the Hex Labs from <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/stitchmap/info">Stitchmap</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also want to do some Sane Quilting but that is for another message.</span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-46770391528152548302013-12-30T11:35:00.000+11:002013-12-30T11:37:06.423+11:00<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well two entries in two days this is starting to look like I might make my resolution come true. I have done some more work on Sue's block Arlene kindly suggested the g</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">rey </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and pink blocks looked a little empty.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> So I added some funky flowers in the top grey block and some rain in the pink block. In the other grey block I added some Sturts Desert Peas. They are mainly done in bullion stitch with the leaves in detached chain. I will be mailing this to Sue next year; probably Friday.</span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-17392330654247453912013-12-29T14:00:00.004+11:002013-12-29T14:00:53.530+11:00<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I am going to try and blog more often in 2014 so I thought I would start practicing today. This is the block I did for Sue in the Stumpwork RR. The wattle is Acacia Pycnantha the Australian floral emblem.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I did a cour</span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">se with Arlene White and adapted her hydrangeas to my wattle flowers. The leaves are woven stitch. Most wattle have little leaves but this one has long strap like leaves. The fabrics Sue used were beautiful but really challenged me as the colours are not me; this being said I am fairly pleased with the result. I intend to keep on now trying to learn to create more stumpwork embroideries. </span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-57415842954907586732013-12-20T08:36:00.001+11:002013-12-20T08:36:18.394+11:00<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have been so slack this year no posts since February. I really intend to try harder next year but we will see. I have done two courses with <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/stitchmap/info">Stit</a></span><span style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/stitchmap/info">chmap</a></span></span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> this year. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The first was the Crazy Quilt Course where we made a pretty sewing kit and the second was Redwork. I was very fortunate to have Shari as my mentor each time.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here are some photos from the Crazy Quilt</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is the thread holder opened out. It was such fun to do creating this secret garden for my threads</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This course had a lot of stitching as well as design elements in it. I found it really valuable.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second course was Redwork and here is a photo of my finished set. These are little weights filled with rice for the times you do not want to use pins but still want to hold something steady.</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Once again this was a very stitch intensive course but I think the finished product was worth the effort</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was a fun exercise just to get the juices flowing. I first drew a series of lines in white charcoal pencil on the dark blue fabric,this was supposed to be indigo dyed cotton but the dark blue homespun was all I had. I then stitched the lines in a running stitch in a heavy white thread trying to remember the rules for Sashiko and also trying to keep my stitches even. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-XfZ1cgesOPZehT5BCPP9TEppdj_5elm_UjrdBQrM8NOnvlIWCqic76WQsu7ERJZ8_3VikyhNkbitfM5fz0M3bO8JR6qhZWvMqERMCBtuXY2SOz5w4c_TDlTpWeVQgWRs6TDwtK3DiF0/s1600/needleBookFront.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-XfZ1cgesOPZehT5BCPP9TEppdj_5elm_UjrdBQrM8NOnvlIWCqic76WQsu7ERJZ8_3VikyhNkbitfM5fz0M3bO8JR6qhZWvMqERMCBtuXY2SOz5w4c_TDlTpWeVQgWRs6TDwtK3DiF0/s1600/needleBookFront.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span id="goog_2094255205"></span><span id="goog_2094255206"></span>I then made a little flower in the Japanese Kanzashi style with my new Flower Maker from Clover and a pretty button and some beads.</span><br />

At last they are finished and mailed out only 3 days late. That is a record for me. They were such fun to do and I am very happy with the way they turned out.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are all three of them together. Of course I have left a much wider frame around them but I pinned it back for the photos.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
This is a closeup of the first one I finished with a pretty peacock in the centre block. The photos are not great as I had to use my phone. </span><div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That is a tale in itself, I could not get the pictures to load into my computer so I could send them to my blog so after much swearing and cursing, yes I used the magic @#$% word, I finally worked out how to get the blue-tooth to work between my laptop and my phone. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Not bad for an Old Gal hay!!!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the second one I finished All the stitching is experimental either I am learning to do a stitch or I want to find out how a combination works. It often means a lot of reverse stitching LOL.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And last but certainly not least is this one more just playing around but I wish the photos came out better.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have no idea which of my partners got which diamond because what I did was package them up with a little note and sealed the envelope. Then I addressed them, kind of like a lucky dip. I mailed 2 of this morning but I do not yet have my third partner's snail mail address so soon as I know that I will send it off also.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I do hope my partners will like their little diamonds as much as I have enjoyed making them.</span></div>

This is a fun block to work on because we know what the finished product will be. It will be the bag to take to the casino.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With that in mind I stitched as much luck as I could into the bag by using Chinese good luck symbols and stitching in red, the Chinese lucky colour and then whipping the stitching in gold for good measure.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is a close up of the stitching, I hope I have the calligraphy right. I looked up on the net the characters then practiced them until they looked right. Then I drew them in pencil on the gold fabric, stitched them with red perle 8 thread and then whipped them with gold filament. I think they look OK and I hope any Chinese writers think the same but even if they do not I thought good thoughts all the time I was stitching so that must count for something..</span></div>

I have been very slack with my writing but here are some photos of the embroidery I have been doing on Rose Anne's blocks.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> This is a butterfly done with chain stitch, detached chain pistil stitch, seed stitch and colonial knots. It is done with single thread art rayon.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The next block is the beautiful underwater scene. I added the tiny fish around the angel fish with silver thread and fly stitch finished with a chain. The other panel is coral, starfish and seaweed in various threads and pearl beads</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here I added a bead tumble down the side of the heart. The stitching is Rhodes stitch in yellow silk.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sometimes I make real flowers but most of the time I make made up ones like these. The leaves and the flowers are silk ribbon and the vine is silk thread.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
'<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn_q4cgRGOlGUY31oSJLQB5ZB5lL2Qeqil33atO-x26eZbS7G_hwtGTu4xyv2JBtJYsd8wLvCUNOIaBmVuX0fpwMZvPHdhyphenhyphenVL_bOJXkKeF7794Xn4JnU8ihxuAid4rxgVVZS9PKrf4xdQ/s1600/RoseAnneBlock06a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn_q4cgRGOlGUY31oSJLQB5ZB5lL2Qeqil33atO-x26eZbS7G_hwtGTu4xyv2JBtJYsd8wLvCUNOIaBmVuX0fpwMZvPHdhyphenhyphenVL_bOJXkKeF7794Xn4JnU8ihxuAid4rxgVVZS9PKrf4xdQ/s320/RoseAnneBlock06a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This stitching on the trellis is a sort of cross stitch but the legs are straight not slanted. It </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">came from one of my favourite books "A Book of Fancy Designs for Ornamenting Oriental Work" This is in the public domain and can be found at </span><a href="http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/html/warm/embroid.htm" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/html/warm/embroid.htm</a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> I don't</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> know what page it is on but the publisher is Mary Haehnlen. This little jewel only has 24 pages and was published in 1884. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-5sBjJiWHRdNq2xX5DTymmsFBfsvFxmlJwzT3ehQ6LAAukMIVuGEhYSAlINQx7-2mcL7UgZVVtVOl0wNMfvwla9-3OdPpyvW9ivkpnZVDczRu4KsnohkKzXLs7ZBxYpVMXglovzx8Ti4/s1600/RoseAnneBlock05a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="153" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-5sBjJiWHRdNq2xX5DTymmsFBfsvFxmlJwzT3ehQ6LAAukMIVuGEhYSAlINQx7-2mcL7UgZVVtVOl0wNMfvwla9-3OdPpyvW9ivkpnZVDczRu4KsnohkKzXLs7ZBxYpVMXglovzx8Ti4/s640/RoseAnneBlock05a.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is just a series of straight stitches using one of Carol Sample's templates. Once in blue the echoed in a goldie colour. A lighter shade of blue was used on the detached chain with pearls. As you can see even with a template I cannot sew straight.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmnzK9o-M1zTATjvVkHxSShnNqErkxd9V_E-7tBb8gnQW8N6JdqSWstruwZN36HJO39V9tL_hEo-yFx1C9rCWBDK3KXwdpuh2-v_vBQE_VJJi6kzTD9kBq7Ev_nR5FZHiFagcyJasaIns/s1600/RoseAnneBlock04a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmnzK9o-M1zTATjvVkHxSShnNqErkxd9V_E-7tBb8gnQW8N6JdqSWstruwZN36HJO39V9tL_hEo-yFx1C9rCWBDK3KXwdpuh2-v_vBQE_VJJi6kzTD9kBq7Ev_nR5FZHiFagcyJasaIns/s320/RoseAnneBlock04a.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> The bottom of this basket is woven over irregular buttonhole stitch and topped with chain stitch to make the appearance of a planter box of woven cane. The flowers are a stitch I found on the web and are supposed to look like peacock feathers. They are made with one large detached chain in a dark colour, then a smaller detached chain in a lighter colour stitched upside down to the first stitch lastly a Colonial or French knot to finish off. I personally like Colonial knots so that is what I use. The greenery is fly stitch and straight stitch in some places.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuWF4GffR5xGPQRDKLeHmjdi8uIpt63hkNCi7ZQF3tZHXeDJjIAExDW446RduWF62MlsS6KZANSMjiEDOCgmUSbjmLCasQtQ-hRlbA1-wiAafQMCy4Kpc0ZSYtRYbBddw2sLtRueRz6tc/s1600/RoseAnneBlock02a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuWF4GffR5xGPQRDKLeHmjdi8uIpt63hkNCi7ZQF3tZHXeDJjIAExDW446RduWF62MlsS6KZANSMjiEDOCgmUSbjmLCasQtQ-hRlbA1-wiAafQMCy4Kpc0ZSYtRYbBddw2sLtRueRz6tc/s320/RoseAnneBlock02a.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And to finish on block 9 a personal touch of a Gum Blossom done in Pistil stitch, Satin stitch and couched bullion. The leaves are satin stitch outlined with outline stitch in a single thread. The gumnuts are bullion stitch. Gumnuts are the seedpods of the plants not the buds as some people think.</span>Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-26909974805844583082012-12-27T10:42:00.002+11:002012-12-27T10:46:45.452+11:00My Beautiful Christmas Cracker<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are some photos of the Christmas Cracker I received from Faye. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yesterday I put the photos of Diane's blocks on the blog but looking at them this morning I realized you cannot really see the stitching so I have uploaded photos of my work on Diane's block. I hope she likes them. I found this an extremely challenging set but a stunning idea and can't wait to see the finished product after Diane embroiders the views from the window. </span><br />

This has been very challenging and Diane's blocks were no exception in fact I think they were the hardest of all but in some ways the prettiest. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Because of the constraint not to use the light green areas and maintain the integrity of the light and dark values if the window frames this really made me for one think. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Once the blocks came to me there was not too much room on some of them. Any how here is my go at these beautiful and exciting blocks. I can't wait to see them finished after Diane puts the scenery in the background areas.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This block I added very little to just the Portuguese plaited stitch in the lower left hand.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The daffodils on the lower left window sill are perle 8 woven stitch.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Most of my stitching came from either TAST in <a href="http://www.pintangle.com/">www.pintangle.com</a> or from a fantastic little booklet "A Book of Fancy Designs for Ornamenting Oriental Work" from <a href="http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/">www.antiquepatternlibrary.org</a>. In Victorian times Crazy Quilting was called Oriental work hence the name of the booklet.</span><br />

I hope I do better than I did this year what with my hip and foot I seemed to slow right down with my sewing. I would have thought being confined to a wheelchair for 6 months would have meant lots of sewing but it was all just too hard and I did very little. So now I mam determined to stop procrastinating and get back to my sewing.Daisyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18304948254256374434noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8351384338080926400.post-41569166613138897752012-10-09T12:15:00.000+11:002012-10-09T12:15:06.634+11:00<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have at last finished my stitching on Pam's blocks. I enjoyed myself with this stitching as it is great to be back in the swing again.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the feather stitch. The colours did not come out as well as I would have liked but you can just see the stitching and the little colonial knot silk ribbon flowers.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The next block is outline stitch I love this moth it is a bit different to the usual butterfly but I think lovley just the same. I stitched this in variegated floss using 2 strands for everything including the satin stitch, running stitch and chain</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The straight stitch was done in rows of perle 8 pale yellow and then woven with a magenta. The green chain stitch outline is also perle 8. I added 5 little flower beads to the trellis made with the stitching.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The herringbone stitch is held down with a tiny cross stitch then fly stitch detached chain and pistil stitch are used to decorate it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr-qFf53wfmVzqDKVMBY94F_JhdGf40_W_AdS2k_Rz-mp5VbNsgLBCVeoO1YzasYtu9PNTVFj3qJWh6jQUtK-ET0CQOSwjvU1ZBEStjLr_FxCAMEPuTqgRHCdaN_UkSqaZW18piPpC_8LF/s1600/herringbone02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr-qFf53wfmVzqDKVMBY94F_JhdGf40_W_AdS2k_Rz-mp5VbNsgLBCVeoO1YzasYtu9PNTVFj3qJWh6jQUtK-ET0CQOSwjvU1ZBEStjLr_FxCAMEPuTqgRHCdaN_UkSqaZW18piPpC_8LF/s1600/herringbone02.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This set of blocks has been so much fun and has really tested my imagination and sewing skills. I can see the improvement in my stitching since I came back to embroidery. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of the problems I always had was I found "Fancy Work" was too constricting I was just using other peoples ideas and not my own just like paint by numbers for me. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My Mother did the most beautiful work and in her later years started designing her own stuff. I am very much the proud custodian of these beautiful pieces.</span></div>
